Wolves boss Vitor Pereira responds to Matheus Cunha to Man Utd reports
Matheus Cunha appears to be edging closer to a summer switch to Manchester United, despite continued praise and support from his current manager, Vitor Pereira.
The Brazilian forward has enjoyed a productive spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers, contributing significantly to their attacking threat since arriving from Atletico Madrid, initially on loan, in January 2023.
With 15 goals in 29 Premier League appearances this season, and 12 the campaign prior, Cunha has attracted widespread attention from several top English clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Aston Villa.
However, Manchester United are leading the race, with reports suggesting the player prefers a move to Old Trafford and has turned down other opportunities to make it happen.
Cunha extended his contract with Wolves in February, but it includes a £62.5 million release clause that United are expected to activate.
While the deal has not yet been officially confirmed, reputable sources indicate it is close to completion. Sky Sports has reported that Cunha is eager to work under incoming manager Ruben Amorim, who is said to view the 25-year-old as an ideal fit for his tactical setup.
Speaking at a recent press conference, Vitor Pereira was diplomatic about Cunha’s situation. He acknowledged that while he does not have definitive updates, the striker remains professional, engaged, and seemingly content at the club.
Pereira emphasized that Cunha has been training with happiness and focus, reinforcing his commitment to the team amid the transfer speculation.
Behind the scenes, Amorim and his staff reportedly see Cunha as a crucial piece for the system they plan to implement, particularly the 3-4-3 formation.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has highlighted that the United hierarchy views the fee for Cunha as reasonable given his profile and current market conditions.
Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has also voiced support for the transfer. Neville noted the lack of natural wide attackers at United, following the exits or underperformance of players like Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Antony.
He believes Cunha’s ability to carry the ball, operate centrally, and support wing-backs makes him a strong tactical fit for Amorim’s preferred style.
While Cunha seems set for a high-profile move, he is not the only forward United are monitoring. Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap is also on their radar, with a £30 million release clause making him an attractive option.
Meanwhile, the futures of Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Højlund remain uncertain, with both strikers linked to potential exits after struggling to meet expectations at Old Trafford. Zirkzee has reportedly drawn interest from Inter Milan, while Fenerbahçe, managed by José Mourinho, is said to be keen on Højlund.
The summer window promises major changes at Manchester United, and the acquisition of Matheus Cunha could be one of the first major steps in reshaping their attack under a new era.

Fernandes and Maguire go wild at Carrington as they watch former Man Utd hero score incredible free-kick (VIDEO)
Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire couldn’t hide their excitement after watching former Manchester United FC team-mate Juan Mata score a stunning free-kick in Australia.
Mata, now 37, currently plays for Melbourne Victory FC in the A-League. Having shared the dressing room with the popular Spaniard for years at Old Trafford, Fernandes and Maguire tuned in to watch Victory’s clash with Sydney FC.
The pair watched the game on a big screen at United’s training ground, Carrington Training Complex.
When Mata stepped up to take a free-kick in the 34th minute, Fernandes immediately began filming. Maguire asked: “Over the wall?” — to which Fernandes replied confidently: “Yeah, for sure. He has to.”
Moments later, Mata curled a superb effort into the top corner, sparking wild celebrations from his former teammates.
As Fernandes shouted with joy, Maguire exclaimed: “Oh my days!” The Portuguese midfielder then added: “The trust I have in this guy, filming live.”
Fernandes later posted the clip on Instagram, writing: “We just knew it that from there he doesn’t miss right @harrymaguire93?”
After the match, Mata was delighted to learn his old United teammates had been watching.
Smiling, the veteran said: “I love them and I’m happy they follow our games. I hope in the next game Bruno can score a similar goal!”
Mata left Manchester United in 2022 after making 285 appearances, scoring 51 goals and providing 44 assists across eight-and-a-half seasons. Since then, he has played for Galatasaray SK, Vissel Kobe and Western Sydney Wanderers FC.
His popularity extends far beyond England. Former Galatasaray teammate Dries Mertens even travelled to Australia recently to visit Mata and watch him play as Melbourne Victory faced Brisbane Roar FC.
Despite Mata’s brilliant opener giving Victory the lead against Sydney FC, they were unable to secure the win. Charles Nduka doubled the advantage in the 69th minute, but quick goals from Apostolos Stamatelopoulos and Ahmet Arslan earned Sydney FC a 2–2 draw.
Even at 37, Mata continues to shine. This season he has made 20 appearances, contributing four goals and 10 assists while rolling back the years with moments of trademark brilliance.

Football often revolves around high-stakes moments, but occasionally the game pauses for humanity. That was the case during the clash between FC Barcelona and Athletic Club when an early injury to Unai Gómez briefly halted proceedings.

The Barcelona coach offered a quick pat and a few encouraging words, acknowledging the player’s discomfort and the seriousness that injuries can bring.
Though brief, the gesture did not go unnoticed. Many fans praised Flick for showing empathy in the heat of competition, a reminder that beyond tactics and results, football still carries moments of respect and sportsmanship between professionals.
