Liverpool and Everton react after car crashes into fans during trophy parade
Liverpool and Everton football clubs have expressed solidarity in the wake of a tragic incident that unfolded during celebrations in the city.
A car drove into a crowd gathered on Water Street, injuring multiple people and prompting a swift response from emergency services.
The incident occurred at around 6pm, as fans were out in massive numbers to celebrate Liverpool’s Premier League triumph.
Authorities confirmed the arrest of a 53-year-old white British man in connection with the crash. Merseyside Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the event.
Eyewitnesses described a horrifying scene where the vehicle accelerated into the crowd, ignoring screams and attempts to warn the driver. Members of the public quickly intervened, surrounding the car and pulling the driver out to prevent further harm.
Liverpool FC acknowledged the incident in a statement on social media, saying they are in direct contact with police and are providing full support during the ongoing investigation.
The club extended its thoughts and prayers to those impacted and praised the work of emergency responders. Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher also reacted, calling it a devastating conclusion to what should have been a joyful day.
Everton FC responded to Liverpool’s message by expressing their own sympathy, stating that their thoughts are with all those affected by the serious events in their shared city.
The Premier League released a statement as well, describing the event as shocking and appalling, and offered full support to Liverpool FC and the wider community.
One witness, Harry Rashid, was attending the parade with his wife and two daughters when the crash happened just feet away. He described how a grey people carrier emerged from near a parked ambulance and drove directly into the crowd.
The impact caused panic and injuries, with Rashid recalling the sounds of people being hit and the chaos that followed. His daughter screamed as victims lay unconscious on the ground nearby.
David Kitchin from the North West Ambulance Service reported that 27 people were transported to hospitals across the city, including a child among those seriously hurt. Emergency crews arrived quickly on the scene to treat the injured and restore order.
Despite the horrifying turn of events, the day had begun with joy, as hundreds of thousands of fans flooded Liverpool’s streets to celebrate their team’s long-awaited Premier League title.
Arne Slot’s squad toured the city on an open-top bus, having secured the trophy a month earlier and lifting it just 24 hours before the parade.
Speaking after the victory, Slot reflected on the achievement and the passion of Liverpool’s fans, comparing it to his time at Feyenoord. He emphasized how special it felt to be part of a title-winning campaign in such a competitive league and praised the spirit of the supporters.
As investigations continue, the city remains united in support of those affected by this tragic incident. Both football clubs, the Premier League, and the wider footballing world have rallied behind the victims, offering condolences and pledging support.
Juventus are reportedly set to compete with Napoli for the signing of Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho this summer.

Is Juventus the right fit for Sancho?
Juventus manager Igor Tudor is preparing for his first full season in charge after leading the team to a top-four finish last term. Known for deploying a 3-4-2-1 formation, Tudor’s system does not traditionally utilize wide wingers like Sancho.
If he joins Juventus, Sancho would likely compete for one of the two attacking midfield spots behind the main striker—a role that currently sees strong competition from Kenan Yildiz, Francisco Conceicao, and Nico Gonzalez. Unless one of these players is sold, Sancho might struggle to find regular playing time in Turin.
Napoli, on the other hand, could offer a more suitable environment for the former Borussia Dortmund star. With the club still looking to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who departed in January, Sancho may find more opportunities to thrive in his preferred position on the wing.
