Published

on

Anime has a way of making certain weapons unforgettable. Swords, in particular, have become symbols of power, justice, and, in some cases, deep emotional connections between characters.

From blades that can cut through mountains to swords with magical properties, these weapons hold a special place in anime fans’ hearts.

Let’s look at the top 10 most iconic anime swords and why they are so unforgettable.

1. Tessaiga (Inuyasha)

Tessaiga And Tenseiga - 'Inuyasha'

Tessaiga, also known as the “Iron-Crushing Fang,” is a sword that belongs to the half-demon Inuyasha. It has the ability to slay 100 demons in a single strike and can transform into a massive blade when used against powerful enemies. Not only is it a weapon, but it also represents the bond between Inuyasha and his father. The sword’s ability to grow stronger as Inuyasha matures makes it a key element in his journey.

2. Zanpakutō (Bleach)

Zangetsu - 'Bleach'

The Zanpakutō in Bleach is more than just a sword. Each Soul Reaper’s Zanpakutō is a reflection of their soul, and it can transform into more powerful forms based on the user’s spiritual pressure. Ichigo’s Zangetsu is one of the most well-known, especially for its enormous size and impressive strength. The versatility and personal nature of these swords make them stand out as some of the most unique weapons in anime.

3. Dragon Slayer (Berserk)

Dragon Slayer - 'Berserk'

The Dragon Slayer from Berserk is not just a sword; it is a monstrous slab of metal designed to kill anything that crosses its path. Guts, the main character, wields this enormous blade with incredible strength, and it becomes his signature weapon in his brutal battles. The sheer size and destructive power of Dragon Slayer have made it a fan favorite and a symbol of Guts’ relentless will to survive.

4. Excalibur (Fate Series)

Excalibur (Fate Series)

Excalibur is one of the most legendary swords in both history and anime. In the Fate series, it is wielded by Saber, also known as King Arthur. The sword is known for its unmatched holy power, capable of annihilating anything in its path. Excalibur represents honor, royalty, and strength, and its connection to one of the most famous knights in lore only makes it more iconic.

5. Elucidator (Sword Art Online)

Elucidator (Sword Art Online)

When you think of Sword Art Online, the first thing that comes to mind is Kirito’s black sword, the Elucidator. This sword becomes Kirito’s main weapon in the virtual reality game, and its sleek design, combined with Kirito’s fighting style, has made it one of the most memorable swords in modern anime. It is powerful, fast, and perfectly suited for the “Black Swordsman.”

6. Sword of Rupture, Ea (Fate/Stay Night)

Sword of Rupture, Ea (Fate/Stay Night)

The Sword of Rupture, Ea, is not your typical sword. Wielded by the powerful servant Gilgamesh, Ea is a sword that has the ability to destroy the very fabric of reality. Its unique design and devastating power make it one of the most feared weapons in the Fate series. It is a sword that stands apart from the rest, representing a force beyond human comprehension.

7. Yoru (One Piece)

Yoru (One Piece)

Yoru is one of the most fearsome swords in the One Piece universe. It is a massive black blade wielded by Dracule Mihawk, one of the strongest swordsmen in the world. 8. Ryuusei (Rurouni Kenshin)

Rurouni Kenshin is known for its grounded swordplay, and Kenshin’s reverse-blade sword, Ryuusei, plays a significant role in the series. This sword is unique because its blade is reversed, making it a weapon that can’t kill, perfectly aligning with Kenshin’s vow to never take another life. It is a sword with a deep moral purpose, representing Kenshin’s desire for redemption and peace.

9. Toyako Bokuto (Gintama)

Toyako Bokuto (Gintama)

Toyako Bokuto, wielded by Gintoki from Gintama, may look like an ordinary wooden sword, but it is far from that. Despite its simple appearance, this wooden blade is ridiculously strong and is capable of cutting through steel and dealing heavy damage. It is an odd yet unforgettable weapon, much like Gintoki himself, blending comedy and action effortlessly.

10. Murasame (Akame ga Kill!)

Murasame (Akame ga Kill!)

The Murasame sword, used by Akame in Akame ga Kill!, is infamous for its deadly ability. A single cut from this blade is enough to kill, as it carries a lethal curse that stops the heart of anyone struck by it. This sword is more than just a weapon; it is a reminder of the burdens its user carries, as each kill comes with emotional weight.

Final Thoughts

These swords are more than just tools for battle. They are extensions of the characters who wield them, each with its own story, purpose, and symbolism. Whether it is the massive power of Dragon Slayer or the cursed edge of Murasame, these weapons leave a lasting impression on both the viewer and the characters who carry them. Which one is your favorite, and why does it stand out to you? Each sword on this list is iconic in its own way, making them a key part of the anime world that fans can never forget.

Man Utd fans name player they never want to see again after ‘disgraceful defending’ in Newcastle defeat

Manchester United FC supporters were left furious after defender Tyrell Malacia was involved in the sequence that led to Newcastle United FC’s dramatic late winner.

Despite being reduced to ten men, Newcastle snatched all three points thanks to a stunning stoppage-time strike from substitute William Osula. The forward surged forward on a powerful run before bending a superb left-footed effort into the corner to seal the victory.

Malacia had only just come on in the 85th minute, replacing Noussair Mazraoui. However, the Dutch full-back struggled to deal with Osula’s movement in the decisive moment. The Newcastle attacker’s quick stepovers left Malacia off balance and briefly facing the wrong direction before the shot was fired past goal.

The moment sparked heavy criticism from United fans online. One supporter wrote that Malacia should never start another game for the club, questioning the quality of the defending in the build-up to the goal. Another fan said the appearance should be his last for United, arguing the club should never have signed him and wondering why he was even on the bench. Others echoed the frustration, with one supporter saying they were speechless after watching the defender’s reaction to the move, while another insisted the substitution itself made little sense.

Malacia endured a difficult period before returning to the pitch. The left-back missed the entire 2023–24 campaign because of a serious knee injury and only made his comeback in November 2024. He then spent the second half of last season on loan at PSV Eindhoven.

After returning to Old Trafford, Malacia initially found himself out of the squad and was reportedly included in Ruben Amorim’s so-called “bomb squad” alongside players such as Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony. With no transfer materialising during the summer window, he was eventually brought back into first-team training toward the end of September.

The appearance at St James’ Park was only his second for the senior side this season, following a brief cameo against Newcastle at Old Trafford on Boxing Day. The nine-cap Netherlands international is also approaching the end of his contract, which expires this summer.

The match itself burst into life during first-half stoppage time. Jacob Ramsey was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for simulation following a challenge from goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

Moments later Newcastle were awarded a penalty when Bruno Fernandes tripped Anthony Gordon inside the box. Gordon stepped up and converted from the spot to give the hosts the lead.

United responded quickly, with Casemiro heading home Fernandes’ free-kick deep into first-half stoppage time to level the score.

The visitors pushed for a winner after the break, but it was Osula who produced the decisive moment with a memorable strike in the 90th minute.

The victory lifted Newcastle above Brighton & Hove Albion FC into 12th place in the table, while Manchester United remained third but missed the chance to strengthen their hold on a UEFA Champions League position.
