Cristiano Ronaldo does the unthinkable against Al-Fayha (VIDEO)

Even the very best experience the occasional slip — and Cristiano Ronaldo offered a rare reminder of that during last night’s clash with Al-Fayha.

Just 12 minutes into the match, the 41-year-old stepped up to the penalty spot, a position from which he has built much of his extraordinary legacy. This time, however, the effort drifted inches wide, brushing the outside of the left post before going out. It was an uncommon sight for a player whose name has become almost synonymous with clinical finishing.

With 965 career goals to his name, Ronaldo’s missing from 12 yards still feels unusual. Yet there was no visible frustration or drop in intensity. The Portuguese forward quickly refocused, continuing to press, move sharply and search for openings with the same hunger that has defined his career.

Age has done little to blunt his drive. Ronaldo remains determined to reach the remarkable milestone of 1,000 career goals before calling time on his playing days. Every appearance adds another chapter to that pursuit — whether it brings a spectacular strike or a rare miss from the spot. It is that relentless ambition, more than perfection, that underlines why he is still regarded as one of football’s all-time greats.

Senegalese protest imprisonment of 18 supporters in Morocco after AFCON

Several dozen protesters took to the streets of Dakar to demand the release of 18 Senegalese fans jailed in Morocco following the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.

The supporters were sentenced on February 19 by a court in Rabat to prison terms ranging from three months to one year on charges related to hooliganism.

Authorities cited allegations including clashes with security forces, a partial pitch invasion and the throwing of objects during the final between the Senegal national football team and the Morocco national football team.

Around 250 demonstrators joined a 1.5-kilometre march in northern Dakar, chanting “Free the hostages” as they called for diplomatic intervention. The protest remained peaceful and concluded without any reported disturbances.

Senegal’s Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, suggested the matter had escalated beyond the boundaries of sport. He said it was unfortunate that tensions had reached such a level between two nations that publicly regard each other as friends, adding that the situation should not have deteriorated in this way.

The final, played in Rabat on January 18, descended into disorder after Morocco were awarded a late penalty, a decision that sparked unrest in the stands. Senegal ultimately secured a 1-0 victory in extra time, with Pape Gueye scoring the decisive goal.

Piers Morgan says Guardiola is ‘so rattled’ after video of Man City manager’s blunt words about Arsenal goes viral

Piers Morgan has claimed Pep Guardiola appears “rattled” after a blunt response about Arsenal’s title challenge began circulating online.

The Manchester City manager is locked in a tense Premier League battle with his former assistant Mikel Arteta, whose Arsenal side currently sit five points clear at the top of the table, albeit having played a game more. The two teams are set for a potentially decisive showdown at the Etihad on April 18, while they are also due to meet in the Carabao Cup, adding further spice to an already intense rivalry.

With the title race dominating headlines, Guardiola was asked whether he had any advice for Arteta as the Spaniard looks to secure his first league crown. Guardiola, who has collected major honours throughout his managerial career, offered a short and pointed reply. He said he could not recall the feeling being referenced and made it clear he was not there to offer guidance to Arteta.

The clip quickly gained traction on social media, where outspoken Arsenal supporter Piers Morgan shared it with his 8.7 million followers on X, suggesting Guardiola looked unsettled by the situation. Many fans echoed that sentiment, interpreting the City boss’s tone as a sign that the pressure of the title chase is beginning to show.

The latest chapter in the race unfolds this weekend. Manchester City travel to face Leeds United on Saturday evening, knowing a win would temporarily close the gap. Attention then shifts to the Emirates on Sunday, where Arsenal host Chelsea as they aim to maintain their advantage at the summit.

‘I know him very well’ – Onana’s close pal reveals Man Utd flop’s stance on returning to Old Trafford

Senne Lammens may be enjoying his rise as Manchester United’s new No.1, but Andre Onana has not abandoned hope of reclaiming his place at Old Trafford.

The Cameroon international left United in September to join Trabzonspor after the club completed a deadline-day move for Lammens. Onana, now 29, had originally arrived in a £44 million transfer from Inter Milan under Erik ten Hag three years ago and remained first choice during Ruben Amorim’s tenure before slipping down the pecking order at the beginning of this season.

Although speculation suggests United could look to sell him in the summer, Onana still has two years remaining on his contract and is reportedly intent on fighting for his future. He is due to return for pre-season, with his long-term prospects likely to depend on the decision of the club’s next permanent manager following Amorim’s departure.

Former Cameroon and Chelsea defender Geremi, a close friend of Onana, believes the goalkeeper is ready to prove himself again. In an interview with Telecom Asia, Geremi explained that there were broader issues during Onana’s time at United and that responsibility did not rest solely on his shoulders. He added that since Michael Carrick’s arrival, the environment around the squad appears more positive, which could benefit Onana as well.

Geremi stressed that Onana possesses rare qualities and natural ability, and said the next step is for him to return and compete for his position. According to him, the goalkeeper has always responded strongly to adversity and performs best when given a genuine opportunity to show what he can do.

He also pointed out that elite clubs require strong personalities who can handle internal competition. Reflecting on his own career, Geremi said that at ambitious teams there is always pressure from teammates pushing for selection, which forces players to raise their level rather than step aside. Ultimately, however, he acknowledged that the final decision about how to approach the challenge rests with Onana himself.
