Man Utd issue statement on new 100,000-capacity stadium after ‘positive conversations’

Manchester United have confirmed that plans for their proposed new stadium will be funded entirely through private investment following ongoing talks with backers and key stakeholders.

The club is targeting a move into a new 100,000-seat venue by 2030, marking a major shift away from their historic home, Old Trafford. Co-owner Jim Ratcliffe had previously suggested partial public funding for the £2 billion المشروع, but that idea has now been dropped.

Speaking at a recent fans’ forum, a club representative explained that the project will rely solely on private financing, adding that discussions with investors remain encouraging and ongoing.

However, progress has not been without challenges. Negotiations with freight company Freightliner Group have hit a roadblock, with the firm reportedly demanding at least £400 million to vacate land near the Stretford End — a crucial area for both the stadium build and the wider Trafford Park redevelopment. So far, no agreement has been reached.

There is also uncertainty around the final design, with some earlier concepts — including a proposed tent-like roof structure — now under reconsideration.

Concerns have been raised about the financial strain such a project could place on the club. Recent figures showed United’s debt standing at around £1.3 billion, fueling fears that borrowing to fund the stadium could push that figure even higher.

Despite this, the club views the appointment of Collette Roche to oversee the stadium development as a key step forward. United believe her leadership will bring sharper focus and direction as the project moves closer to execution, with ambitions to create what they describe as the world’s leading football venue.

On the pitch, qualification for the UEFA Champions League could provide a timely financial boost. Under Michael Carrick, United remain well-placed in the league despite a recent draw with AFC Bournemouth.

Their next fixture comes on April 13, when they host rivals Leeds United — potentially another important step in securing a return to Europe’s top competition.

Man Utd and Liverpool ‘make contact’ to sign ex-Chelsea star on free transfer

The defender is attracting strong interest ahead of the summer transfer window, with both Manchester United and Liverpool reportedly exploring a potential move on a free transfer.

The Antonio Rüdiger enjoyed a successful five-year spell at Chelsea, where he lifted the FA Cup, Europa League, and Champions League before joining Real Madrid in 2022 without a transfer fee. Since arriving in Spain, he has continued to build on that success, adding a La Liga title and another Champions League trophy to his résumé.

However, with his current deal at Madrid nearing its expiration and no extension agreed yet, several top European clubs are keeping a close watch on his situation.

According to reports, Juventus are among those keen to bring him to Serie A, with head coach Luciano Spalletti said to value the defender highly following their time together at AS Roma.

Interest from the Premier League is also building, with United and Liverpool both understood to have made initial contact to signal their intent. United are expected to review their defensive options this summer, although talks are ongoing over a new contract for Harry Maguire.

At Liverpool, uncertainty remains around Ibrahima Konaté, whose contract situation and inconsistent campaign have raised questions about his long-term future.

While the club has already secured young defender Jérémy Jacquet from Stade Rennais and are hopeful of welcoming back Giovanni Leoni from injury, strengthening at the back remains a priority — especially with Virgil van Dijk entering the final year of his contract.

Despite the growing interest elsewhere, there is still a possibility that Real Madrid could extend Rüdiger’s stay at the Bernabéu.

After dealing with injury setbacks earlier in the season, the German international has recently returned to form, starting the club’s last seven matches and playing a key role in their dominant Champions League victory over Manchester City.

With multiple clubs circling and his future unresolved, Rüdiger is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing free-agent stories of the summer.

Rasmus Hojlund aims dig at Ruben Amorim over Manchester United exit

Rasmus Hojlund aims dig at Ruben Amorim over Manchester United exit

Rasmus Højlund has suggested he no longer felt valued at Manchester United under Rúben Amorim, admitting he felt restricted and sidelined toward the end of his time at Old Trafford.

The Danish striker arrived in 2023 from Atalanta in a deal worth £72 million and made a solid impression in his debut season, scoring 16 goals. However, his second year proved more difficult, with just 10 goals in 52 appearances as his role in the team became increasingly uncertain.

That situation ultimately led to his loan move to Napoli last September, with the Serie A side holding an option to make the transfer permanent for £38 million if they qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

Since returning to Italy, Højlund has rediscovered his form under Antonio Conte, scoring 14 goals in 37 appearances so far. He credits the belief shown by the club’s leadership — from the coach to the board — as a major factor behind his resurgence, explaining that he finally feels trusted and backed again.

Reflecting on his final months in Manchester, Højlund indicated that he saw the writing on the wall early in the season. Being left out of the opening Premier League match against Arsenal signaled to him that opportunities would be limited if things continued in the same direction. He described feeling boxed into a situation where regular playing time seemed unlikely.

Despite the challenges, he pushed back against the negative perception of his spell at United, particularly in Denmark, where he believes his performances were often portrayed too harshly. While acknowledging that criticism is hard to ignore in the age of social media — especially when tagged directly in posts — he stressed that the reality behind the scenes was more complex than the headlines suggested.

Højlund also spoke about the mental side of dealing with public scrutiny, noting how quickly narratives can shift in football. While he is currently being praised for his performances at Napoli, he insists his own mindset remains grounded and self-critical, always striving to improve and contribute more to the team.

He admitted there is a clear difference in how he is perceived now compared to his time in England, but accepts that media attention is part of modern football. For Højlund, the key is maintaining balance — not getting carried away by praise or weighed down by criticism — as he continues to develop his game.

Mohamed Salah next club odds after Liverpool announce exit

Mohamed Salah is set to leave Liverpool at the end of the 2025–26 season, bringing an emotional close to one of the most successful eras in the club’s modern history.

The Reds confirmed the decision in an official statement, revealing that both parties have agreed to part ways after nine remarkable years at Anfield. The club also explained that Salah chose to make the announcement early out of respect for supporters, allowing transparency while he remains focused on finishing the season strongly before any farewell celebrations take place.

In a heartfelt video message, the Egyptian forward reflected on his journey, explaining that leaving was not an easy decision. He shared that he never expected to form such a deep bond with the club, the city, and its people, describing Liverpool as far more than just a football team. He spoke about the unforgettable highs, including major trophies, as well as the challenging moments the squad faced together.

Salah expressed deep gratitude to everyone connected to the club — from teammates past and present to the fans who supported him through every phase of his career. He emphasized that their backing during both the best and toughest times is something he will always carry with him. While acknowledging that departures are never simple, he made it clear that his connection to Liverpool will remain, calling it a permanent home for him and his family.

With his exit confirmed, attention has now turned to his next destination. A move to the Saudi Pro League is currently seen as the most likely outcome, while alternatives such as Major League Soccer are also being considered. A potential return to AS Roma — where Salah played before joining Liverpool — remains a possibility, as does a switch to Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite speculation, Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, has insisted that no decision has been made regarding the forward’s next club. He stated clearly that neither the player nor anyone else currently knows where Salah will be playing next season.

Although Salah signed a contract extension last year that technically runs until 2027, it is understood that Liverpool will allow him to leave on a free transfer, marking the end of a legendary chapter — but not yet the end of his story in football.
