Gary Neville warns Michael Carrick will ‘kill’ Man Utd star if he doesn’t start him soon

Gary Neville warns Michael Carrick will ‘kill’ Man Utd star if he doesn’t start him soon

Gary Neville believes Benjamin Sesko has done more than enough to earn a starting spot for Manchester United against Crystal Palace this weekend, warning Michael Carrick that keeping the young forward on the bench again could damage his momentum and confidence.

Sesko once again made a decisive impact on Monday night, coming off the bench in the second half against Everton to finish off a superb counter-attacking move that secured all three points.

Despite not yet starting a match under Carrick, the Slovenian striker has become a reliable difference-maker in cameo appearances, scoring crucial late goals against Fulham and West Ham and finding the net three times in his last four outings.

If you include the goals he scored during Darren Fletcher’s brief spell in charge after Ruben Amorim’s exit, the former RB Leipzig forward now boasts six goals in his last seven appearances — a remarkable run that has intensified calls for him to be included from the first whistle.

Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, the former United captain suggested Sesko’s goal celebration against Everton carried a clear message. Neville said it felt like the striker was signaling that he deserves to be in the starting XI next time out, especially after being left out following his standout display against West Ham. In Neville’s view, Sesko would have been frustrated not to feature from the beginning after producing such a high-quality performance in his previous appearance.

Neville admitted he had not always been fully convinced by Sesko earlier in the season, but believes the striker’s recent form demands recognition.

Benjamin Sesko sends message to Man Utd fan after West Ham draw

He argued that opinions must evolve based on current performances, particularly with United having struggled in recent matches against West Ham and Everton. According to Neville, Sesko appears stronger physically, sharper in his overall play, and brimming with confidence — all signs that he is ready to lead the line from the start. He added that overlooking him again on Sunday could be a major blow for the youngster.

Carrick has largely stuck with a consistent starting lineup during his six matches in charge, with only enforced changes due to injuries to Patrick Dorgu and Lisandro Martinez. However, Neville expects Sesko’s form to force a rethink ahead of Palace’s visit to Old Trafford.

Looking ahead, Neville predicted a front four of Matheus Cunha on the left, Bryan Mbeumo on the right, Sesko through the middle, and Bruno Fernandes operating just behind the striker. He suggested that Amad Diallo, despite impressing recently, may have to drop out temporarily to accommodate the in-form forward. Neville’s stance is clear: when a striker is delivering winners and equalisers on a consistent basis, it becomes impossible to justify keeping him out of the starting team.

Chelsea & West Ham United fined after fiery clash involving Jean-Clair Todibo and João Pedro

Chelsea and West Ham have been hit with substantial fines following the mass confrontation that erupted at the end of their heated London derby last month.

Tensions boiled over in stoppage time after Chelsea completed a dramatic turnaround from 2-0 down to lead 3-2. A clash between Adama Traore and Joao Pedro quickly escalated, prompting players from both sides to rush in and intensify the situation. Jean-Clair Todibo was ultimately shown a red card for grabbing Pedro by the throat.

The Football Association confirmed that both clubs were punished for failing to control their players, citing improper and provocative conduct during the incident. Despite West Ham having a player dismissed, Chelsea received the heavier financial penalty. The Blues have been fined £325,000, while the Hammers must pay £300,000.

Chelsea’s larger fine reflects a pattern of disciplinary issues this season. It marks their third similar breach, following previous charges stemming from matches against Aston Villa in December and Fulham in early January. The repeated offences contributed to the increased sanction.

Discipline has been a recurring concern at Stamford Bridge throughout the campaign. The club has accumulated nine red cards in total — eight for players and one for former head coach Enzo Maresca. Neither Maresca nor his successor Liam Rosenior have been keen on internally fining players, but the growing list of dismissals has drawn scrutiny.

Wesley Fofana became the latest Chelsea player to see red after being sent off in last weekend’s clash with Burnley. At the time, the Blues were leading 1-0, but the dismissal shifted momentum and Burnley snatched an equaliser in injury time. Fofana will now miss the upcoming fixture against Arsenal.

In an official statement, the FA confirmed that an independent Regulatory Commission reviewed the events of the January 31, 2026 Premier League fixture. The commission determined that Chelsea failed to ensure their players refrained from improper or provocative conduct around the 95th minute, while West Ham were found to have similarly failed to prevent improper, provocative, or violent behaviour. Both clubs admitted the charges, and the respective fines were issued following a formal hearing.

With both sides accepting responsibility, attention now turns back to on-field matters — though Chelsea, in particular, will need to address their ongoing discipline concerns as the season progresses.

RUMOUR: Man Utd ‘reach agreement’ over first deal of summer transfer window

Manchester United have reportedly agreed a deal to sell Altay Bayindir to Besiktas in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to sources in Turkey.

Bayindir arrived at Old Trafford from Fenerbahce in 2023 as backup to Andre Onana. He was handed an early opportunity this season, starting the opening six Premier League matches after Onana slipped down the pecking order under Ruben Amorim.

Onana later secured a loan move to Trabzonspor, while United moved swiftly on deadline day to sign Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp. Since Lammens claimed the No.1 shirt at the end of September, Bayindir has not featured in either league or cup competitions.

The 27-year-old struggled to fully convince during his limited appearances, and he was close to sealing a move to Besiktas during the winter transfer window. Now, Turkish reports indicate the Istanbul club have revived their interest and reached an agreement with United over a fee believed to be around €5 million (£4.3m). Bayindir is also said to be prepared to lower his salary in order to secure a return to Turkey.

His departure would open up space in United’s squad, though questions remain over the long-term goalkeeping situation. Recent reports suggest Andre Onana is determined to fight for his place when he returns from his loan spell. However, that may prove challenging given the assured performances delivered by Lammens since stepping into the side.

Speaking recently on Sky Sports, Gary Neville highlighted how demanding the goalkeeper role is in English football. He explained that it is arguably the toughest and most heavily scrutinised position in the league. Reflecting on Lammens’ arrival, Neville admitted he initially questioned the decision to bring in a young keeper without extensive top-level pedigree, fearing the pressure at Manchester United could overwhelm him.

However, Neville acknowledged that, although it is still early days, Lammens has shown both composure and technical ability. He pointed out that the young goalkeeper appears calm in his decision-making — choosing wisely when to catch, when to punch, and doing so with control rather than panic. Neville added that he has been genuinely impressed by the youngster’s start and believes he has the potential for a very bright future.

Real Madrid fan caught throwing controversial Nazi Salute before Benfica clash (VIDEO)

Excitement was building inside the Santiago Bernabéu as Real Madrid supporters geared up for their Champions League showdown with Benfica.

In the moments before kick-off, television cameras scanned the stands, highlighting the energy and passion among the home crowd. But during the broadcast, the focus briefly shifted to a disturbing scene involving one individual in the Madrid section.

A supporter was caught on camera appearing to perform a Nazi salute before the feed quickly cut away. The moment was fleeting, yet it immediately sparked concern given the symbolism associated with the gesture.

The incident stood in stark contrast to the message the club’s fans had presented earlier in the evening. Ahead of the match, sections of the Bernabéu displayed an anti-racism tifo aimed at promoting unity and rejecting discrimination in football. As a result, the isolated act proved particularly awkward and damaging in the wider context of the occasion.
