5 Facts You Don’t Know About Vergil Devil May Cry
Vergil, the first son of the demon Sparda and human Eva, is a central figure in the Devil May Cry series. He is the older twin brother of Dante and plays various roles throughout the games.
After the death of their mother when they were children, Vergil and Dante part ways. Vergil rejects his humanity and embraces his demonic heritage, while Dante embraces humanity and initially rejects his demonic side. Vergil is stoic and reserved, driven by a relentless pursuit of power inherited from his father, Sparda.
In Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening, Vergil suffers defeat in a confrontation with Mundus in the secret ending. He is tortured and transformed into the Black Knight, known as Nelo Angelo in Devil May Cry. Throughout the game, he engages in numerous conflicts but is ultimately defeated by Dante and Nero.
Vergil is considered a quintessential rival character in the video game medium. While he initially had a more background presence in the original Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 3 solidified him as one of the greatest video game characters of all time, serving as a foil to surpass and defeat in combat.
It’s important to note that the Devil May Cry series is known for its rich lore, which is often revealed in the background. Simply playing the games may not provide the full depth of Vergil’s character, as he is enigmatic and complex. However, Vergil is an integral part of what makes Devil May Cry so iconic.

Five Facts About Vergil
1.Vergil Makes Use Of Dante’s Character Model In The First Game
In the original Devil May Cry, Vergil was designed to mirror the player’s character, Dante, so closely that the developers used Dante’s character model as a base for Vergil’s alter ego, Nelo Angelo.
This decision allowed for more dynamic interactions between the two characters in battle and saved development time by using existing assets. Vergil’s choice of summonable swords over guns was also influenced by this design choice, as it avoided the need for a separate firing animation.
2. Vergil Is Stronger Than Dante
Devil May Cry 5 highlights Vergil’s superiority in terms of raw power compared to Dante. Throughout the series, Vergil consistently demonstrates his strength and dedication to the philosophy of power.
While Dante ultimately prevails in their conflicts (except in Devil May Cry 5), it is more due to his own abilities rather than any lack of strength on Vergil’s part. Notably, Vergil nearly killed Dante in their first encounter in Devil May Cry 1.
3. Cameo Appearances
Despite not reaching the same level of prominence as Dante in the Devil May Cry series, Vergil has made cameo appearances in other gaming properties.
These appearances often take the form of cosmetics or card items in games like Viewtiful Joe, Sengoku Basara, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, and Teppen. He has also been playable in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, albeit in an updated version of the game. Given his popularity, it is likely that Vergil will continue to appear in future Capcom projects.
4. Dante And Vergil, Originally Identical Twins
In the earlier games, including Devil May Cry 4, Dante and Vergil were portrayed as identical twins. They shared a character model in Devil May Cry and a facial model in Devil May Cry 3.
However, Devil May Cry 4’s Special Edition introduced a divergence in their appearances, with Vergil retaining his Devil May Cry 3 look while Dante was aged up to align with the series’ timeline. Devil May Cry 5 further emphasizes their distinct appearances, with Dante looking older and Vergil appearing younger, indicating that they are no longer identical twins in the series.
5. Gilver, Vergil’s Alter-Ego
In Devil May Cry’s expanded universe, particularly in the series’ literature, Vergil is depicted using the alias “Gilver” before the events of the main games. According to one of the series’ side novels, written by the main writer of the series, Vergil worked alongside Dante under this alias, hunting demons.
This portrayal of Vergil as Gilver provides an intriguing perspective on his character, blending elements of his original depiction with his Devil May Cry 3 persona.

Man Utd fans name player they never want to see again after ‘disgraceful defending’ in Newcastle defeat
Manchester United FC supporters were left furious after defender Tyrell Malacia was involved in the sequence that led to Newcastle United FC’s dramatic late winner.
Despite being reduced to ten men, Newcastle snatched all three points thanks to a stunning stoppage-time strike from substitute William Osula. The forward surged forward on a powerful run before bending a superb left-footed effort into the corner to seal the victory.
Malacia had only just come on in the 85th minute, replacing Noussair Mazraoui. However, the Dutch full-back struggled to deal with Osula’s movement in the decisive moment. The Newcastle attacker’s quick stepovers left Malacia off balance and briefly facing the wrong direction before the shot was fired past goal.

The moment sparked heavy criticism from United fans online. One supporter wrote that Malacia should never start another game for the club, questioning the quality of the defending in the build-up to the goal. Another fan said the appearance should be his last for United, arguing the club should never have signed him and wondering why he was even on the bench. Others echoed the frustration, with one supporter saying they were speechless after watching the defender’s reaction to the move, while another insisted the substitution itself made little sense.
Malacia endured a difficult period before returning to the pitch. The left-back missed the entire 2023–24 campaign because of a serious knee injury and only made his comeback in November 2024. He then spent the second half of last season on loan at PSV Eindhoven.
After returning to Old Trafford, Malacia initially found himself out of the squad and was reportedly included in Ruben Amorim’s so-called “bomb squad” alongside players such as Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony. With no transfer materialising during the summer window, he was eventually brought back into first-team training toward the end of September.
The appearance at St James’ Park was only his second for the senior side this season, following a brief cameo against Newcastle at Old Trafford on Boxing Day. The nine-cap Netherlands international is also approaching the end of his contract, which expires this summer.
The match itself burst into life during first-half stoppage time. Jacob Ramsey was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for simulation following a challenge from goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

Moments later Newcastle were awarded a penalty when Bruno Fernandes tripped Anthony Gordon inside the box. Gordon stepped up and converted from the spot to give the hosts the lead.
United responded quickly, with Casemiro heading home Fernandes’ free-kick deep into first-half stoppage time to level the score.
The visitors pushed for a winner after the break, but it was Osula who produced the decisive moment with a memorable strike in the 90th minute.
The victory lifted Newcastle above Brighton & Hove Albion FC into 12th place in the table, while Manchester United remained third but missed the chance to strengthen their hold on a UEFA Champions League position.
